Dogs, just like humans, are affected by the cold weather. So, when this Turkish woman saw a stray dog curled up outside the restaurant, she knew she needed to do something to keep him warm. And what happened next was unexpected—she removed her scarf and laid it right over the dog.
The woman named Duygu Elma did not know that her random act of kindness was being caught on camera. The video clip lasted less than a minute, but it’s too heartwarming not to share. It went viral after it was posted online, and Elma learned about it only when her friend told her.
Elma didn’t expect the outpouring of praise for her sweet gesture. She thought anyone who’d seen the dog in that situation would have done the same thing. She just couldn’t stand seeing the dog lying there shivering, so offering her scarf was the least she could do.
Elma didn’t mind sacrificing her comfort just so the stray dog would feel warm. She felt happy to be of help, but she wasn’t expecting to receive so much attention for her simple but kind gesture. Although her encounter with the stray dog was brief, she knew she made a small difference one way or the other.
The cold weather can be harsh to some animals like the stray dog Elma helped. So with her viral video, Elma hoped to inspire more people to look out for their dog’s well-being during this time. She was glad to have set an example, so she’s looking forward to more people to follow her lead.
