Late Sunday evening in an apartment building in California, Latana, Chai was sleeping in her bedroom when her distraught Pit Bull Sasha abruptly started barking and slamming on her bedroom door, trying to wake her up.
As soon as Chai got up to open the door, Sasha came in a bizarre, frantic manner. This was such a surprise to Chai since Sasha never acted this way before. Sasha was alarmingly barking and jumping.
“What the heck is wrong with you?” Chai uttered. And as she looked up, she saw black smoke and flames coming from the neighbor’s house.
The fire had quickly spread into their unit before she could even react. She immediately ran into her seven-month-old Masailah’s room, but to her surprise, Sasha was already trying to save her baby. Her trusty dog was dragging Masailah by her diaper, getting her off the bed. They then ran outside as fast as they could and called 911.
Firefighters came in shortly to put out the fire. The building was severely damaged, but thanks to Sasha and Chai, they were able to call for help on time.
If not for Sasha’s incredible alertness, Chai and Masailah could not have made it out alive. Sasha saved not just her mom and her sister Masailah, but also everyone in the entire building.
Dogs are known to be always alert and always on guard, but recalling Sasha’s quick wit to warn her fur mom and rescue her baby sister the best way she can, she deserves all the praises. Now Sasha’s job description is raised from being a sweet and responsible sister to Masailah to a hero of the blazing fire. The surprises and advantages of having a dog the family continues to grow into something far better than love.
